Câu tường thuật trong tiếng Anh

Nội dung

Câu tường thuật mệnh lệnh

Yêu cầu ai đó làm gì => Bạn vẫn sử dụng dạng động từ nguyên mẫu (to do/ to be) trong câu tường thuật, đặc biệt khi nói hoặc yêu cầu

Ví dụ:

Câu trực tiếp: “Drink plenty of water!” the doctor said to me.
Câu tường thuật: The doctor told me to drink plenty of water.
Câu trực tiếp: “Don’t be late!” I said to Joe.
Câu tường thuật: I told Joe not to be late.
Câu trực tiếp: “Can you help me, please!” Jackie said to me.
Câu tường thuật: Jackie asked me to help her.

You can also say “Somebody said (not) to do something”:

Paul said not to worry about him. (but not Paul said me)

Chú ý

Khi tường thuật những gì người khác nói, chúng ta thường chia động từ lùi lại 1 thì. Xem các ví dụ sau:

Present Simple – I’m busy.	Past Simple – He said he was busy.
Present Continuous – We’re waiting.	Past Continuous – They said they were waiting.
Past Simple – She left earlier.	Past Perfect Simple – He said she had left earlier.
Past Perfect Simple – We had arrived before our friends.	Past Perfect Simple – He said they had arrived before our friends.
Past Continuous – I was staying with our friends	Past Perfect Continuous – She said she had been staying with friends.
Present Perfect Simple – I’ve been here twice.	Present Perfect Simple – She said she had been here twice.
Present Perfect Continuous – I’ve been playing tennis I’m going to see her tomorrow.	Past Perfect Continuous – He said he’d been playing tennis. She said she was going to see her tomorrow.
Will – They will win the World Cup this year.	Would – He said they would win the World Cup this year.
Can – We can go to college together.	Could – She said they could go to college together.
May – It may rain tomorrow.	Might – He said it might rain tomorrow.
Must – You must do your homework.	Had to – She said we had to do our homework.

Note: Bạn có thể rút gọn từ “that” khi nói. Ví dụ:

Paul said that he was feeling ill.

Hoặc: Paul said he was feeling ill.
